There has been discussion recently about why Fido was banned from Badger and Blade. I dealt with this in my post on 14 July "Never complain........."
I have been looking back to remember the actual sequence of events that led to my ban.
Here is a thread which I started shortly after I joined the site:
The Gentleman's Shop My first grumble is in my post 09-11-2009 6.19pm
Then I started another thread:
Moving posts
My grumble continued a bit more colourfully. Finally, it was immediately after my post on 09-11-2009 at 9.28 that I received my life ban. That was the post that caused Jim to finally lose patience. Perhaps my apology was too belligerent.
Badger and Blade members need to understand that this kind of incident does no credit to what is really a great web site with a lot of great guys having fun. Moderators really must show more tolerance towards new members, particularly those from the UK who have a rather different sense of humour.

I thought I made a reply on this blog?
ReplyDeleteDid you move it?
No. This is the only post that has been made!
ReplyDeleteI’m not suprised you were banned. Anything that shakes the status quo
ReplyDeletewill lead to a ban. It has nothing to do with your sense of humour.
The stable hardcore membership there protects its own interests and you are starting to sell competative shaving brushes and you were promoting a British business. You are a threat.
Do you know that you can not type the word Connaught on that forum.
Connaught Shaving is an 5 star internet based providor of shaving goods who they banned. The irony that they review and discuss products that have been purchased from Connaught always tickles my sense of humour.
You will find that you will get a better price for your products if you stay well clear of the main forums. The quality of your brush speaks for itself and although you are selling them at a great price, you would actually be more successful making them an elitist brand and trebbling the price especially for exports to biggots.
The only way that some shavers will a appreciate the quality is if they pay a high price. I have found that there are many shavers in the Americas believe that.
Although I suspect it’s not money that motivates you.
Great blog by the way.
Thanks English. I'm really quite relaxed about not being on B&B. But I am street wise!
ReplyDeleteI had a moderator PM reminding me that B & B was a gentlemanly forum (in addition to two other moderator PMs......I've posted a handful of times and not been in the least bit ungentlemanly)....I replied pointing out that gentlemen usually know how to spell, and offering to correct their standard email. Jim never replied!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteA gentlman like u is betr orf dis side of de pond!
I could not possibly comment!
ReplyDeleteB&B a pretty strange place. Seems to me like a lot of old granny types who have nothing to do but be on there all day and who are intolerant of just about everything. The best part is they do everything under the guise of "being gentlemen." While nothing is further from the truth. Your banishment is truly a "Badger of honor" so to speak.
ReplyDeleteAt least I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteI just tried to put my blog in my signature and got told no no, not ok. Even had my posting edited to remove any trace of my link I had that wasnt even in my signature line. Not trying to sell anything, just thought to try to share my shaving experiences that are on my blog.
ReplyDeleteOh well, there loss I guess. Was told if I wanted to have my blog address in my signature line I would have to pay $126 to become a vendor just to have it there.
How ridiculous, im not a vendor, not pedaling goods. Seems like they are a bit uptight over there. Oh well there are other great forums that arent worried over such things. Like your blog, here is mine if you ever want to have a look, not selling a thing, just trying to supply some laughs on shaving.

Hi
ReplyDeleteSome of the forum mods do not welcome bloggers. Some shaving bloggers, including me, are now running small businesses like my New Forest Brushes. It is inevitable that this is a source of publicity for my business even though I have a separate blog for NFB. So if a forum charges Vendors, I do understand the logic of charging a blogger in my circumstances. But if your blog is just about shaving and you do not engage in any business or accept advertising that's a different matter. B&B probably won't bother to differentiate, that's the problem. I'll have a look at your blog. Thanks for visiting mine.
If you got banned from B&B for having a sense of humor and/or rocking the boat, and you are also selling shaving supplies, then I MOST CERTAINLY am interested in purchasing your shaving supplies! Fair play, Fido.
ReplyDeleteMy B&B involvement is behind me now. It's a pity misunderstandings occcur and people fall out. But that's life. We all move on. Ironically, I'm pleased not to be on B&B now. If I was one of their favoured vendors, I simply couldn't cope with the demand. I'm already busy enough as it is. I still remain amazed at how many people seem willing to pay crazy prices for brushes that cost so very little to make.
ReplyDeleteIt's a funny place B&B . I have had some very helpful advice and
ReplyDeletealso read some puzzling views and atrocious spelling errors !
A friend of mine , jokingly called it Guns&Glory - due to the large amount
of ex- military types and gun lovers !
I had a mod PM me over a small mistake on my part . So I offered an apology
and got a rather rude reply to that ! There are not the only forum or
blog of shaving interest ! I enjoy reading yours !
Cheers ,
A fellow shaver
Thanks, as you will see if you are able to follow up my post of yesterday, I'm not alone in having issues with B&B. But I don't give it much thought now.
ReplyDeleteI withdrew my membership there after getting dogged by a total jerk named Phil who is a mod, a bully, and far removed from any notion of a gentleman.
DeleteIt's a shame about that place. It could be so much more than it is but it's a rah-rah club filled with, mostly, inexperienced shavers and others just repeating the same things they've read on blogs like this. I was VERY glad to retire from there after afew weeks.
Chris
I've been modded by Phil before as well. He's a retired Navy guy who still thinks he has military authority. Probably gets pushed around by his wife.
DeleteI don't give this much thought now!
DeleteVery sad. But there are some truly odd people in this world who behave unpleasantly and don't see themselves the way others do. There are some horrible aspects to the use of the internet - nastiness on forums being one of them. Best to stay away when we don't like what we see. That's what I do now.
ReplyDeleteTo B&B has always seemed like a nice place, and I'm a norwegian punk and leftist. Sorry to see other people have been treated badly.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm on the outs there, as well. It seems their legal department really has the thumbscrews tightened. I once mentioned my blog, and that disappeared pronto! Their notion of "community" is not very ... well... community oriented.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to comment on B&B any more. They have their rules and that's up to them. Any group of more than 10 humans is likely to have someone whose conduct isn't pleasant. That's why I retired completely from public life. No committees or board meetings now. Bliss in my old age!
ReplyDeleteSome of the best people in the wetshaving community have been banned from B&B. Consider yourself special if you have. The forum is a complete joke and there is no such thing as civil free speech there, even with regard to shaving.
ReplyDeleteIronically, most all of the moderators aren't gentlemen at all and conduct the forum like a police state.
I got harassed by Phil, this crusty old navy guy who seems to spend every waking hour on that site inappropriately moderating on his pathetic power trip. An old loser with no life? Very possibly.
I was just banned for asking a question on how to shave my head. If you have cancer and need advice, DO NOT GO THERE! The moderator told me my question was inappropriated (as he probably sucked on a cigarette). When I asked why? I was immediately banned for life. WTF Over?
ReplyDeleteI've moved on now. No doubt things still happen like this and will again.
ReplyDeleteI hear all of you. Badger & Blade is conservative America at its best. There are endless thank you for your service forums.
ReplyDeletePhil, I feel sorry for anyone who served under him. Any one he suspects of not being with the program is banned.
I'm now enjoying retirement from the business -B&B is a distant memory!
